May 25, 1945, continued…

… two planes exploding and burn. One was not more than a half mile from our area, the other a mile.

A few minutes later another plane burst into flame about the same place as the others and also crashed into the area at the East end not far from the second one.

About this time we saw tracers going into the burning wrecks and wondered what it was about. During this time we saw a number of explosions on the airfield and flames jumped hundreds of feet in the air. It was like daylight all over. The all clear didn’t sound yet, but nothing more happened and we went to bed around 3:00 A.M.

This morning we were informed that the Japs belly-landed two planes…
